GKI Continues to Voice the Suffering of Her Congregation

JAYAPURA, SUARAPAPUA.com— Rev. Andrikus Mofu, Chairman of the Evangelical Christian Church (GKI) Synod In the Land of Papua said, the GKI church in the Land of Papua is an old church in the Land of Papua that has been saving people from darkness to light.

But today, GKI also has an obligation to continue to voice the suffering of its people in the Land of Papua.

“Therefore, GKI in the Land of Papua has expressed its attitude regarding the situation that has happened lately that in the eyes of God all human beings are equal,” said Rev. Mofu in his opening remarks at the third Annual Working Meeting of the GKI Synod in the Land of Papua to the Annual Working Meeting participants consisting of 56 Presbyteries and 6 prepared Presbyteries in the Waringin Sport Centre hall, in Kotaraja – Jayapura, Papua, on Monday (10/07/2019).

He conveyed, what has been conveyed as a church to all parties so that there is a mutual desire to solve every problems in the land of Papua, both of which have an impact on human rights violations and historical rectification, so that later no problems arise.

If allowed to continue, he said, in the nationhood and statehood the problem will continue to exist and emerge.

“GKI as a local church, at national as a member of the Council of Churches in Indonesia (PGI), but also at the regional GKI as a member of the Council of Churches in Asia (CCA), the Pacific Council of Churches (PCC) and at International a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC). So conveying the message to the congregation is part of being a church,” Mofu said.

What was said, he said, for the sake of the good in the land of Papua, but also in this country. He continued, the church will encourage the government, Parliament of Papua (DPR), Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP), Indonesia National Military (TNI), Indonesia National Police (POLRI) and all components to open space to sit together to solve all the problems that occurred in the land of Papua.

On that occasion, the Secretary of Papua Province, Thea Herry Dosinaen who represented the Governor of Papua was present at the third annual working meeting said, with the development of IT today has resulted in a strong pressure on life in the contemporary period, where various events that occurred in Papua.

However, said Secretary Herry, all this are everyone’s responsibility.

“For this reason, on behalf of the Governor of Papua, he urges that in this meeting not to be pressured by this contemporary. How to deal with all of this humbly and with a vision that is not repressed by the interests of others, “said Secretary Herry in the opening of the third Annual Working Meeting of Synod GKI in the land of Papua.

“Everybody sees Papua with a certain background, but in the name of Jesus we block all of that. This meeting became important for the land of Papua. The land of Papua became the second Israel,” he said.

Hermus Indou, Head of the West Papua Regional Secretariat for Spiritual Mental Development and People’s Welfare who represented the Governor of West Papua Province in the third Annual Working Meeting of Synod GKI in the land of Papua said, given the situation, GKI as a church should make itself as a control and voiced prophetic voice.
