Komnas HAM RI was Asked to Go Down to Tambrauw Seeing the Intimidation By the Authorities Towards Civilians

TAMBRAUW, SUARAPAPUA.com — Komnas HAM RI was asked to go to Tambrauw to retrieve data on the actions of TNI officers who have been carrying out acts of violence, oppression, and intimidation against civilians in Tambrauw Regency, West Papua Province.

John Djamamoma, Chairperson of Solidarity Caring for Justice for Papuan Indigenous Peoples (SPKB-OAP) asked Komnas HAM to see and follow up on the problems that occurred in Tambrauw Regency.

“We firmly state that the SPKB-OAP strongly condemns the acts of violence perpetrated by the military against civilians in Tambrauw Regency. We ask Komnas HAM to come down immediately to see the perpetrators of the beatings of civilians in Miyah, District Fef, and the violence against four residents of Kwor District that occurred at the end of July, “said Johan Djamamoma to suarapapua.com, at the Kaki Abu Secretariat recently.

Also, he asked the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to take responsibility for all acts of violence perpetrated by the military that occurred in Tambrauw.

“The army is present in Tambrauw at the request of the government, so the state must take full responsibility for all forms of violence and oppression and intimidation that have occurred so far,” said Djamamoma.

Therefore, on behalf of the people of Tambrauw Solidarity Cares for the Justice of the Indigenous Papuans firmly states that they reject the formation of a new District Military Command a new Military Headquarters at the ward in Tambrauw Regency.

The state must be held responsible for acts of violence perpetrated by the military against civilians in Tambrauw Regency.

Laurenzius Syufi, one of the students from Tambrauw Regency added since the military presence in Tambrauw the community has begun to fear because they have experienced acts of violence, intimidation, and oppression.

“The presence of the military in Tambrauw is not at all beneficial for the people of Tambrauw, because since the presence of the military civilians have been subjected to beatings and intimidation,” said Syufi.

The presence of the military is only to protect the elite for future business interests without thinking about the rights of the people of Tambrauw Regency.
