The Regent of Sorong Revokes the Palm Oil Plantation Decree belonging to PT. MMP

JAYAPURA, SUARAPAPUA.com — Jhon Kamuru, Regent of Sorong Regency has revoked three permits letter. The three decrees that were revoked included the revocation of location permits, the environment, and the revocation of permits for oil palm plantations from PT. Mega Mustika Plantation from the Klaso and Moraid valleys in Sorong district.

Located on the beach of Della beach, Selemkai District, Sorong Regency, the regent Kamuru on August 14, 2020, handed over the three decree on the revocation to the Chairman of the Malamoi Traditional Council, Danci Ulimpa.

Regent Kamuru said the removal was carried out to protect the forest.

“I revoke this decree because people protect forests and forests protect people. Revocation of this decree aims to protect our environment,” he explained on Della beach, Selemkai district, Sorong district.

Kamuru also emphasized that every investor or development built in Sorong does not sacrifice the community’s location, but pays attention to the rights of indigenous peoples so that indigenous people do not become victims in their own country.

“I submit a decree to revoke the oil palm company. The people protect the forest and protect nature. Nature will also protect the community. For any development or large-scale investors, they still pay attention to community needs. Development that is driven based on local needs and wisdom so as not to sacrifice the indigenous people,” he explained.

The chairman of the Malamoi Adat Council, Danci Ulimpa said that after the permit was revoked, indigenous people were encouraged to build traditional villages. This is because the Klaso valley area is a place of indigenous education civilization.

“The community maintains nature and the forest remains sustainable for future generations. We will encourage traditional villages in the Klaso valley area. This area is the center of the civilization of indigenous education so that people continue to protect the forest and nature for future generations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sem Ulimpa. The chairman of the regional leader of the indigenous peoples’ alliance (Aman) Malamoi emphasized that the indigenous people should return to protecting their forests by gardening so that the forest is maintained and does not become the target of investments that damage the forest ecosystem in the Klaso valley.

“The decree has been revoked. People are returning to gardening so that our land is not empty. If it is empty, it will be targeted by large investments that destroy the natural ecosystems and forests in the Klaso valley,” said Sem.
