Sorong Student Association Supports PRP and Refuses Special Autonomy

KOTA SORONG, SUARAPAPUA.com— The Aru Student Association (IMA) in Sorong City supports the Papuan people to refuse and reject Otsus and supports the Papuan People’s Petition (PRP) to determine their own destiny.

Johan Djamamoma, Chairman of IMA Sorong Raya told suarapapua.com, Thursday (10/9/2020), emphasized that IMA supports the Papuan people to call out on their right to self-determination in the Papuan People’s Petition (PRP).

“We Aru Sorong students fully support the Papuan people’s struggle to determine their own destiny. Whatever it would be, let the Papuan people decide their own destiny,” said Johan Djamamoma in Sorong.

His party assessed that the Government of the Republic of Indonesia had failed to resolve the problems that occurred in Papua and failed to develop Papua with Special Autonomy itself.

“Today we are in solidarity with the Papuan People’s Front against Special Autonomy (Otsus), because problem after the problem occurs in Papua, but the Government of the Republic of Indonesia ignores whatever the problems are and seems to ignore and not willing to look up for means and ways to solve the problems that are occurring and those that have occurred in Papua,” he said.

Stefano Kahailele added that Otsus in Papua, which has almost ended, has absolutely had no better impact and benefit on and for the people of Papua.

“For 20 years of Otsus enforcement, many regional regulations are in favor of the Papuan people themselves. Currently, the government cannot empower the Papuan people with Otsus,” said Kahailele.

Therefore, IMA was involved in the movement to reject Otsus, reject Otsus, and to support the occurrence of PRP.

“We are in solidarity with the Papuan people’s front action against Otsus today because we have heard and seen a strong and long history of past problems. In addition, we understand that the Papuan people need support from various parties to help call out what their hearts desire,” he said.
