JAYAPURA, SUARAPAPUA.com — Hengky Wanmang, Chief Staff of TPNPB-OPM Makodap III Kali Kopi Timika has been shot dead by TNI / Polri officers during an attack operation carried out by the Nemangkawi Task Force Team at TPNPB-OPM Headquarters Kodap III Kali Kopi, Timika Papua, Sunday (16/8/2020).
Hengky is one of the sons of the heir to Mount Nemangkawi, which is currently operated by a giant American company, PT. Freeport Indonesia.
A Spokesperson for the TPNPB-OPM, Sebby Sambon, told suarapapua.com that Hengky was the best son of Nemangkawi’s heir and one of the leaders of the TPNPB-OPM who had been shot dead by Indonesian troops.
“On this occasion, the Management of the National Commission for National TPNPB-OPM Headquarters also announced the national sorrow for the shooting of a TPNPB-OPM officer on behalf of Hengky Wanmang,” Sebby said, Monday (17/8/2020).
Victor Yeimo, KNPB International Spokesperson, admitted that Hengky Wanmang was a West Papuan freedom fighter who was targeted by the United States and Indonesia to secure exploitation of the Freeport mine in his ancestral country.
Victor said, on many interviews, the message of his struggle was very clear, namely to Freeport McMoRan and Indonesia who were the culprits of colonialism and oppression in West Papua. “Our fighter Hengky Wanmang, Staff of the Regional Defense Command (Kodap) III Nemangkawi TPNPB, has died in the battlefield during a gun battle with the guardian of the imperialist capital Freeport in Amungsa, Kali Kopi, Timika, West Papua,” he said.
The murder of Hengky Wanmang on the day of the proclamation of the Republic of Indonesia was proved by the denial of the anti-imperialist and colonialism spirit proclaimed by Soekarno and the Indonesian independence fighters. This is a form of pseudo nationalism (false nationalism) that exists in the brain of the Indonesian state and its apparatus.
“I am sure that the Indonesian people who are aware of the oppression will stand with the West Papuan freedom fighters,” said Yeimo.
He added that Freeport was the beginning of the entry point for foreign capital that had plunged Indonesia into the grip of the US imperialist octopus and its allies. Freeport is the root of crimes against humanity and the environment.
“The roots of genocide, ecocide, and ethnocide in West Papua,” he said.
